I love weed.

I do.

I love what it can do for the Earth, I love what it can do for one’s health, I love the movement.

I love how it makes me feel when I use it. I love the conversations I have, the music I play and the art I create. I love when I meditate and practice yoga when I use it.

I love how I can sit on my porch, smoke a joint, pray to my creator, talk to my plants and play with my dog. And So. Much. More.

And now that it is becoming more socially accepted and legal, many more people can benefit from this wonderful healing plant.

What I don’t love is the criminal aspect of it and the stigma attached to it from decades of demonization. I don’t love how greed and the criminal element now surrounds it. I don’t love how growers use pesticides, artificial whatevers, and the unnecessary use of fertilizers in plastic containers. I don’t love the excessive electricity used in its production, much of which can be mitigated with the use of more sustainable means.

I know that I can sound righteous in my values. I know this. And yet, it is not unwarranted.

Why not use sustainable means of production?

Why not use a business model based on cooperations instead of competition?

Why not use this time, this plant, to help Mother Earth and its inhabitants instead of causing harm?

One of my favorite teachers is Maya Angelou. She has a wonderful quote that I often reflect upon:

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

I feel it is high time we start doing better in the cannabis space. Don’t you?
