The American Patriot
I was at a gunshop in Virginia the other day and I met a guy who was getting his rifle outfitted for a scope. He was a veteran and he told me he swore and oath to defend the Constitution and he was getting ready for Antifa.
This troubled me but didn’t surprise me. He obviously feels like he is doing the “right”thing, but what does that mean. I’m sure he feels, like many people that share his ideas, that they are patriots. While I can say that he may be a patriot, he is far from being an American Patriot.
I say this because anyone can die for their country. But to be an American Patriot, to me, means so much more. To me it means defending the weak, providing for the poor, having compassion, being a shield of freedom. It means embracing and living by the high ideals of morality and courage. Encouraging others to live the highest expression of their lives and standing up for others against cruelty while giving a voice to the voiceless, like children, the elderly, animals and most importantly, nature.
Unfortunately, there are many in this country, who I feel, were scared into a way of life that is scarce and hostile. They are the uniformed, misinformed and the illiterate. So as American Patriots, it falls on me and you to have compassion for those who are mislead into being fearful of change, fearful of their neighbor and fearful of the world around them. It falls on us to be the change we wish to see in the world.
What are your thoughts?
With love
